For those still stuck at home or just trying to find something while self-isolating, here are a few eye-related book recommendations. This is a short list of various works of fiction that somehow relate to eyes!
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
This classic novel is about a group of boys who get stranded on an island in the middle of the ocean, and a very important part of the book happens to be someone’s glasses.
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkein
This fantasy trilogy set in Middle Earth follows the thrilling journey of the “one ring to rule them all” as well as features the all-seeing Eye of Sauron!
The Diamond Lens by Fitz James O’Brien
This short story is about a scientist who discovers a very powerful microscope. A great quick read for those interested in optical equipment!
The Oedipus Cycle (Oedipus the King, Oedipus at Colonus, Antigone) by Sophocles
These classic Greek tragedies follow the family of Oedipus and his cursed family line. They also feature the blind seer Tiresias! (As well as another eye-related spoiler…)
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
This historical fiction novel set during World War II follows the stories of two very different young people. One is a boy in Germany, and the other is a blind girl in France.
BONUS: The Odyssey by Homer
This epic poem actually has a brief cameo of the blind seer Tiresias as he helps Odyseus return home.
All these books seem great!
My only suggestion would be that there seems to be more of the fantasy/mythological variety, so maybe include one more book from a different genre? Other than that it looks great!
This is nice - I like the explanations
This is great! I think this looks good
